Terms of service

The agreement, in plain English.

Last updated:

This page describes how I work with clients. It's written to be readable rather than clever — if anything here is unclear, call me and I'll explain it before you sign anything.

1. What I'm agreeing to do

I'll design and build the website described in your package, to the page count and feature list shown on the pricing section of this site, and I'll launch it for you. Anything not described there is out of scope until we agree on it separately.

2. The free mockup

Before any money changes hands, I'll build a real home page for your business and send you a link. That mockup is free and carries no obligation. If you decide not to go ahead, we simply stop — you owe nothing, and the mockup remains mine.

3. Payment

  • Half of the package price when you approve the mockup and I start the build.
  • The remaining half when the site goes live.
  • The care plan begins the month after launch and bills monthly.
  • Invoices are due within 14 days.

4. Revisions

Your package includes the number of revision rounds listed in the pricing section. A "round" means you send me your collected changes and I make them. Beyond that, further work is billed at $65/hour — and I will always give you an estimate and get your agreement before starting. You will never receive an invoice you didn't see coming.

5. What I need from you

A build depends on getting content, photos, and feedback from you. If a project goes quiet for more than 30 days I may pause it and pick it back up when you're ready; work already completed remains payable.

6. Who owns what

You own your domain, your content, and the finished website once it's paid for. Your domain is registered in your name, not mine.

Content you give me — text, photographs, logos — remains yours, and you confirm you have the right to use it. I keep the right to show the finished work in my portfolio unless you'd rather I didn't, in which case just tell me.

7. Leaving

You can cancel the care plan any time with 30 days' notice. There's no contract term and no cancellation fee. I'll hand over your site files and transfer your domain to you or to whoever you've hired next.

If the care plan lapses, hosting and the security certificate stop with it — meaning the site will go offline until it's hosted somewhere else. I'll warn you well before that happens.

8. What I can't promise

I'll keep your site updated, backed up, and monitored, but no one can guarantee 100% uptime, immunity from every security issue, or a particular Google ranking. Anyone who guarantees you a #1 ranking is selling something.

My liability is limited to the amount you've paid me for the work in question.

9. Ending the arrangement

Either of us can walk away from a build in progress. If you do, you pay for work completed to that point. If I do, I'll refund anything paid for work not yet done and hand over whatever is finished.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan.

Call (734) 719-0035 and ask. I'd much rather explain something now than have it be a surprise later.
